A Rare Program-specific Draw Conducted by Canada

A rare program-specific draw was carried out by the Government of Canada on May 30th and a total of 700 Invitations to Apply were issued to Express Entry candidates.

Under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) a total of 500 candidates in the Express Entry system were issued the Invitations to Apply (ITAs). The minimum score of these candidates in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) was 288 points.

It should be noted here that only candidates in FSTP were picked up with score as low as 288 points in this Program-specific Draw.

200 more candidates in the Express Entry pool were issued the ITAs through the Provincial Nominee Program. The candidate with the lowest score who was picked up had 902 points.

The high CRS cut-off score is because the Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination get an additional of 600 points in the CRS. For example, a candidate who is in the Express Entry pool with a score of 300 in CRS and gets a provincial nomination from a province in Canada than the candidates CRS score will increase to 900 points.

One more time a tie-break rule was used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in both the cases. The date and time for this tie break for both FSTP and PNP candidates was May 30th 2018 at 14:52:06 UTC.

What this means is that all the candidates in FSTP and PNP who had submitted their profile before this time and date and had score 288 and 902 and above points respectively, were picked up to receive the Invitation to Apply.

With these draws the total number of ITAs that have been issued till now in 2018 has reached 32,200.
