Canadian- Indian Universities Tie Up
Posted on: 15 June 2011

In a bid to make the educational ties stronger, Canada is looking at tie ups with various Indian universities. Latest reports have surfaced that in July, York University will begin building its first “full-fledged” Canadian campus on Indian soil.

Residences and facilities for more than 320 Indian and International students would be established by York’s Schulich School of Business and the facilities would be open in the fall of 2013.

The opportunities of stronger ties and making Canada a favorite study abroad destination are eyed by other Canadian universities of repute as well, the top names being University of Regina, Simon Fraser University, University of Winnipeg and Carleton University.

It was recently announced by the University of Regina that it will be offering a joint degree in kinesiology with south Indian university in India. Each year as many as 30 Indian students would be eligible and would study two years in both the countries.

To encourage the demand of international students in Canada, earlier in the year, Simon Fraser University and the University of Winnipeg sent representatives to India. Following the same, Carleton University will be holding a pair of Canada-India conferences to discuss education and innovation with representatives from Indian universities.

Furthermore, a Canada-India Centre for Excellence in Science, Technology, Trade and Policy would be opened by Carleton University.

“The efforts by Canadian and Indian universities are laudable as Canada has always been a very popular study abroad destination for Indian students”, said Col. BS Sandhu(Retd.), CMD, WWICS Group. He added these steps would not just add to the popularity of Canada as a study abroad destination, but would ensure that Indian students get the right education from the top universities of Canada.
