Skilled Migrants in High Demand For Next Mining Boom-
Western Australia Faces Labor Crunch…
Posted On : 30 October,2010
Foreign workers have always been in high demand in Australia and it is believed
that to overcome the shortage of workers, Western Australia is looking to
increase the number of skilled workers. In the wake of the next mining boom, the
Western Australia (WA) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) claims that the
Australian government must augment skilled immigration so as to deal with labor
demand shortages.
Confirming the scenario, CCI's Dana Mason said, "CCI's predicting we'll need an
additional 500,000 workers here in the state over the next ten years but we're
likely to fall well short of this number." Adding further, she posited that in
the absence of the additional overseas workers, inflation and the cost of doing
business would swell.
Lt. Col. BS Sandhu, CMD, WWICS commented, “To cash in on the opportunity, it is
recommended that workers should apply promptly under the General Skilled
Migration program. This points-based immigration system of Australia has gained immense popularity
and has helped the Land Down Under to have a vast pool of skilled migration.”
The workers can also get sponsored from the employers and apply under various
employment-based immigration schemes to reach Australia.
