Indian Immigration to Fill 30 K Labor Gaps in Australian Immigration
Posted on : 9 May, 2011
To counter the shortage of skilled workforce, India and Australia have decided to
work in tandem and are working together in opening up training system to Indian
students.
The officials of Australia and India are working with the educational institutions
and training organizations of Australia to open the training system to the Indian
students.
It is believed that thousands of students would be trained under the plan so they
can work in both the countries. Furthermore, as many as 30,000 Australia-trained
Indians would be recruited to work in Australia, thus, filling the labor gaps in
Land Down Under.
Under the system, Indians would be trained to Australian standards and employed
on the same conditions as Australians falling under the existing immigration schemes.
The initiative was taken after realizing that India needs one million skilled workers
in order to develop the mining industry. This initiative would benefit two fold
as India and Australia both are witnessing a lack of workers.
Positive about the initiative, Peter Linford, Australia's senior trade official
in India, the skills training program is bound to offer enormous opportunities for
the education sector and mining industry in both the countries.
Terming the development as a breakthrough, Col BS Sandhu (Retd.), CMD, WWICS said,
“The scheme is one of its kinds and could become a model, paving the way for others
to follow in industries in other countries.”
