Proposed changes in
Canadian Immigration System |
As we all know that Canadian Immigration applications
are taking considerably a long period for finalization.
Cases filed in New Delhi are presently taking
approximately six years before they are reviewed by CHC.
This is basically because the applications are being
reviewed based on their date of receipt in the CHC i.e.
first in first out basis.
The Government of Canada has introduced legislation
amendment to the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act
with a view to ensure that families are reunited faster
& skilled workers arrive in Canada sooner.
Once the proposal is passed it would be effective w.e.f.
27 Feb 2008 & all cases filed on or after 27 Feb 08
would be governed by the new rule. The amended rule will
provide great flexibility in addressing a range of
labour market needs by selecting immigrant applications
on 3-tier system. Tier 1 would be high priority
immigrants (like IT professional, Engineers & Health
care etc) who would reach Canada within 12-15 months.
Tier 2 would be of little lower profile who would reach
Canada in about 24 months & type 3 would take normal
processing time.
The minister of immigration would have the authority to
issue the instructions to the immigration officers in
regard to the professions available in Canada and their
priorities which could change from time to time based on
the prevailing labour conditions over there.
Ultimately, the above measures will result not only in
reduced waiting period & improved services but will also
help in managing the growth of back log of applications.
Those applicants who applied prior to 27 Feb 08 will
however not be affected by the new measures and will be
dealt with fairly under the existing rules. |
