Posted on : 08 January,2011
In the year 2010, the number of immigrants in the province of Manitoba increased
by 17%, with over 15,000 immigrants arriving last year.
Welcoming the immigrants and appreciating the quality of skilled workforce that
enters the province through the Provincial Nominee Program, Manitoba Labor and Immigration
Minister Jennifer Howard said, "Having a stable, skilled workforce is what brings
us work and opens up markets. It's the quality of immigrants through the provincial
nominee program. They're highly skilled and highly educated.†A higher number of
businesses have put forth the demand for more skilled laborers so as to fill in
the vacant positions.
Further, to ensure that quality skilled immigrants choose Manitoba over other provinces,
Manitoba would be receiving an 8% increase in their settlement funding from the
government in the coming year. The province will also continue to appeal to the
federal government to increase the number of federal certificates available through
their PNP in the hopes of attracting more skilled workers to the province.
Col BS Sandhu (Retd), CMD, WWICS said that Canada has always topped the charts
in immigration; however, aspirants always preferred to settle in provinces like
Ontario and British Columbia. Manitoba has recently made it to the favorite list
and the welcoming attitude of the Manitoba authorities have added to the popularity.
He added that the skilled immigrants quickly integrate into the economy and enrich
the province economically and culturally. That's why immigration is supported by
the authorities.
Manitoba province of Canada has witnessed tremendous growth in the past years and
has emerged as an employment hub majorly for government and government funded institutions.
Besides agriculture, the industry has also faired well in the recent years making
it a good choice for skilled immigrants. The well-equipped infrastructure and transportation
have also accentuated the growth and development of the province in the recent years.
