Record Number Skilled Migrants Accepted under Provincial Nominee Programs by Canada
Posted on : 03 Aug, 2011
While understanding the importance of the Provincial Nominee Programs, Canada is
geared to accept record number of skilled migrants under these programs.
Recognizing that the labor shortage gap of the provinces and the territories is
filled by the skilled manpower, which is essentially obtained by the way of the
Provincial Nominee Programs, the Immigration Minister of Canada, Jason Kenney said
that the PNPs play a dominant role.
As per the reports, Canada plans to admit 40,000 immigrants in the Provincial Nominee
category in the year 2011. In 2005, as many as 8,000 skilled immigrants entered
Canada under the PNP and the recent figure is five times more, thus, proving the
popularity of this category.
Under the Provincial Nominee category, people are nominated by a Canadian province
or territory to apply for immigration to Canada. Thus, every province and territory
identifies its own economic immigrants. Keeping the popularity and the benefits
of the programs in mind, the projected admissions of nominees has been increased
each year.
Col. BS Sandhu (Retd.), CMD, WWICS Group said, “Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver
attract the largest share of skilled immigrants. However, due to the Provincial
Nominee Programs, 26 percent of skilled migrants accepted as Permanent Residents
of Canada choose to settle in provinces or territories other than Ontario, British
Columbia, or Quebec.”
He added that the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee program, which is the PNP for Saskatchewan
is also gaining popularity, as this program is a fast track option to settle in
Saskatchewan, which is the most rapidly developing province of Canada.
