TOEFL Scores to be accepted by Australia
Posted on: 25 May 2011
In a bid to widen the choices for the Indian students and promote the Australian institutions, Australia has announced to accept TOEFL scores.
Test of English as a foreign language, popularly known as TOEFL is one of the most-widely used English proficiency test for student visa applications. Currently, the Australian government only recognizes the International English language Testing System (IELTS), however, this move would now help the Indian students in not appearing for two English tests in order to study in Australia.
Under the present system, students seeking Australian student visa need to take the IELTS. However, most of the Australian higher educational institutions accept TOEFL scores for admissions.
Confirming the development, Eileen Tyson, Executive Director Communication at Educational Testing Services, which conducts TOEFL said, “This will increase the choices for Indian students and give a boost to the Australian institutions.”
Col. BS Sandhu (Retd.), CMD, WWICS Group said, “Australia is the third most popular destination for Indian students seeking foreign education- after the US and the UK and the announcement by the Australian government to accept TOEFL would help the students and the Australian education system alike.”
He added that majority of the students aspiring to study abroad prefer to take TOEFL, as it graduates them access to maximum institutions. This development would definitely strengthen Australia as a dominant study abroad destination.
