Ahmed Hussen, Canada's Minister of Immigration, has announced that the country will bring in at least as many new immigrants in the coming year of 2018 as it has planned to in 2017.
These comments from Ahmed Hussen has come at a time when the federal government is planning to come out with its Immigration Levels Plan for the year 2018.
“Three hundred thousand is now our new normal,” stated Hussen, who a higher number is also a possibility for the year 2018.
Hussen added, that the government increased the target from 260,000 to 300,000 to fulfill the need of Canadian families who want to reunite with their loved ones,”
Employers in Canada were also asked to give them permission to use immigration to fulfill their need for more skilled workers.
Minister Hussen has already stated earlier this year that the annual target of 300,000 new admissions will be the bottom line figure for the year 2018.
According to Hussen the large number of immigrants who will settle down as permanent resident in Canada will come through the economic class. It is where the greatest demand for immigrants is.
The economic immigration system of Canada is being praised internationally and it has changed to become a demand-based model famously known as Express Entry.
In this system, eligible candidates are invited by the government to apply for permanent residence of the country and they are picked up depending on the score obtained in the Comprehensive Ranking System.
Candidates who are invited are given 90 days to apply for permanent residency. The majority of the applications that are submitted are processed by the government within a period of six months.
Aspiring immigrants have other options also to settle in the country such as through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). They can also immigrate to the province of Quebec.
Candidates can also invest in the country and can be admitted to the country as business immigrant.
