Skilled Worker Visas, Canada

Skilled worker immigrants are chosen for their ability to become successfully established in Canada. The major factors on which an individual is assessed in order to immigrate to Canada are:

  Federal Skilled
  Canada is one country that has the potential of making dreams come true for the people who want to be successful in life.

Besides being a land of immense natural beauty, it is also a land of unlimited opportunities. Canada has been declared as the best country to reside in for eight years by the UN, from 1992-1999.

Canada offers the best social welfare programs in the world to its citizens and landed immigrants. Canada's cultural life is vibrant because of fusion of different cultures from all around the globe.

  Provincial Nominee Program for Skilled Workers
  Under this program, an individual must satisfy the criteria set by the provinces before the case is sent for filing under the Federal Immigration Program. The applicant's application would be approved by the provincial authorities and he/she would have to reside in the province which has nominated him.

  Quebec Skilled Worker Class
  Under this program, an individual must satisfy the criteria of the Federal Skilled Worker Program in addition with the intention of residing in Quebec and certain conditions laid by the Quebec Immigration Authorities.

  Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program
  The PNP allows Manitoba to recruit, screen and nominate prospective immigrants who have the skills to fill specific labour market demands and contribute to Manitoba's industrial and economic growth. Applicants can immigrate to Manitoba if their intended occupation is in high demand, they have guaranteed job offer in their intended occupation and they have support or relatives in Manitoba to assist them in the settlement process. Other factors considered are age, education, length of recent work and if applicable, spouse's occupation.

  Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program
  The province selects individuals and nominates them to federal government for landed immigrant status. The applicant must have a score of 68 points to qualify under SINP. The Canadian High Commission will review your file and undertake the applicants' health, security and background checks. In the first two years of the SNIP, the average time for making the application to receiving a visa was eight months. Interviews by a federal immigration officer are also likely.

  Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program
  The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program was created through an agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. It allows the Province to recruit immigrants in order to meet its industrial, economic and labour market needs. A person who is nominated by Newfoundland and Labrador can then apply for a permanent resident visa at a visa office abroad, under the immigration category of Provincial Nominee.

The criteria for eligibility include age, education, intended occupation in Newfoundland and Labrador, guaranteed employment in Newfoundland and Labrador, work experience, language and adaptability. You should have enough points to be considered for the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program. Provincial Nominee Applicants must not submit any applications or documents to a Canadian Visa Office until they are instructed to do so by the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development.

  Alberta Provincial Nominee Program

The Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an employer-driven immigration program operated by the Government of Alberta, in conjunction with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Employers unable to fill skilled positions with Canadian residents may present their business case to the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program and apply for approval to recruit a specified number of foreign candidates to fill these positions. Employers may also apply to the PN Program to nominate individuals already working in Alberta, under a Temporary Foreign Worker Authorization. The employer's application under the Provincial Nominee Program will be considered where the position:

·  cannot be filled by a Canadian resident;
·  is for permanent, full-time employment in Alberta;
·  meets provincial employment and wage standards;
·  is offered to an individual who
·  meets the required qualifications; and
· does not conflict with existing collective bargaining agreements.

Employee candidates may be considered for Provincial Nominee Program nomination if:
·  they are recruited by a pre-approved Alberta employer or
· they have a valid job offer

Successful Provincial Nominee Program candidates nominated by the Government of Alberta will be required to meet all Federal statutory requirements regarding health, criminal and security checks before an immigration visa is issued.

  Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program
  The Canada/Nova Scotia Nominee Agreement was signed in August 2002 and provides Nova Scotia with an active role in selecting newcomers who wish to live in the province. The agreement will be managed and administered by Nova Scotia Economic Development.

The goal of this agreement and the objective of the Province of Nova Scotia are to locate and encourage economic immigrants who will settle and work in Nova Scotia. The five-year agreement allows Nova Scotia to nominate 1,000 skilled immigration candidates - 200 candidates and their accompanying family members each year.

To qualify under the NSNP, an applicant must meet the Program's qualifications and conditions (in development). The province may make allowances or exceptions, depending on the applicant's overall suitability and commitment to Nova Scotia, as well as his or her willingness to locate outside the Halifax metropolitan area.

The NSPNP is not based on a specific skill-shortage list. Rather, the NSPNP has identified certain provincial sectors and industries as high priorities. These currently include aerospace, offshore oil and gas drilling and exploration, technology, and other highly skilled trades. The occupational skills sought by the NSPNP typically require considerable education.
