Immigration candidates with a profile in Canada’s Express Entry system were the focus of latest draw held by the province of Alberta under its Provincial Nominee Program – Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).
Alberta issued 150 invites, commonly known as Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores as low as 350 in its first draw of 2020, which took place on January 9.
Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province of Alberta to search the Federal Express Entry pool to find eligible candidates and nominate them for provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. It targets Express Entry candidates who can contribute to the economic development needs of the province.
To be considered for a nomination for Canadian permanent residence from Alberta through its Express Entry Stream, candidates must have a CRS score of at least 300 points and be working in an occupation that “supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities,” among other criteria.
There is currently no list of eligible occupations available. While a job offer or previous work in Alberta is not mandatory in order to be eligible, the AINP gives priority to candidates who:
- have a job offer and/or work experience in the province;
- hold a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; and/or
- have a parent, child or sibling already living in the province
Alberta’s Express Entry Stream draws often invite candidates with CRS scores that are much lower than those drawn through Federal Express Entry draws. In fact, the cut-off score of 350 in this latest invitation round is also significantly lower than the cut-off -off threshold for latest draw conducted through the Express Entry system on January 22, which have a cut-off score of 471.
Those candidates who got selected through the Alberta Express Entry Stream also received additional 600 points towards their CRS scores, which effectively increase their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
