In its two latest invitation rounds conducted in the month of October 2019, the province of Alberta invited 401 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
In first selection round that was held on 24 October, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued a total of 319 Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores as low as 300.
However, another draw that was held on 30 October was significantly smaller, as just 29 invitations were issued to Express Entry candidates with CRS scores of 350 and up.
The invitations were issued through the Alberta Express Entry Stream – a stream that allows the AINP to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who fulfill the stream’s eligibility requirements and send them invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
To be considered for a nomination for Canadian permanent residence from Alberta through its Express Entry Stream, candidates must have a CRS score of at least 300 points and be working in an occupation that “supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities,” among other criteria.
There is currently no list of eligible occupations available. While a job offer or previous work in Alberta is not mandatory in order to be eligible, the AINP gives priority to candidates who:
- have a job offer and/or work experience in the province;
- hold a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; and/or
- have a parent, child or sibling already living in the province
Express Entry candidates who receive an invitation from Alberta can apply for a provincial nomination and those who approved for a nomination receive additional 600 points towards their CRS scores, which effectively increase their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
