The Canadian province of Alberta invited 115 Express Entry candidates with scores as low as 350 to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in a new draw held on October 9.
The federal Express Entry system is Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers. It manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic immigration programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Canadian Experience Class.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who meet the stream’s eligibility requirements and invite them to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
In order to be considered for a nomination through AINP’s Express Entry Stream, the first step is to create a profile in Federal Express Entry System.
No job offer or previous work experience in Alberta is mandatory to be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream. However, applicants must be working in an occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities.
The AINP generally gives priority to candidates who:
- have a job offer and/or work experience in the province;
- hold a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; or
- have a parent, child or sibling already living in the province.
A provincial nomination results in an additional 600 CRS points and effectively guarantees an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
