The Government of Canada invited 4,500 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence in the largest invitation round ever held on February 19, 2020.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off threshold in this draw was 470, a reduction of 2 points over the previous draw, which was conducted on February 5 and had minimum CRS score of 472 points.
The February 19 invitation round is the largest draw in the history of Express Entry with a total of 4,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) being issued. This was also the 4th Express Entry draw of 2020 and brings the total number of invites issued this year to 14,800.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) applied a tie break rule in the January 22 draw and the time stamp used was January 13, 2020 at 10:52:52 UTC. This means that all candidates with CRS scores of 471 and above, who entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before this date and time received an ITA in this invitation round.
The total number of invitations issued in each draw is an important factor in determining the CRS score cut-off. The higher number of ITAs will allow more high-scoring candidates to be pulled from the Express Entry pool, often resulting in a lower CRS score.
Although it cannot be predicted that whether IRCC will continue issuing high numbers of ITAs in future invitation rounds, the February 19 draw possibly will be the first in a series that could drive the CRS cut-off into the 460s.
As of February 14, 2020:
- The total number of Express Entry candidates in the pool: 144,042
- The total number Express Entry candidates in the pool with a score between 451-600: 21,116
The candidates, who received ITAs in this draw, now have 60 days to submit their complete application for Canadian permanent residence to IRCC.
