Alberta immigration has released the details from the latest two Alberta Express Entry Stream draws took place on January 22 and January 29, 2020.
In the January 22nd draw, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) invited 201 Express Entry candidates with a minimum Comprehensive ranking system (CRS) score of 350. While a total of 150 Express Entry candidates with CRS score of 300 or more received Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in the 29th January invitation round.
The AINP is a component of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The invitations were issued through the Alberta Express Entry Stream – a stream that allows AINP to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who fulfill the stream’s eligibility requirements and send them invitations to apply for a provincial nomination through regular draws.
To be considered for a provincial nomination from Alberta through its Express Entry Stream, candidates must have a CRS score of at least 300 points and be working in an occupation that “supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities,” among other criteria.
There is currently no list of eligible occupations available. While a job offer or previous work in Alberta is not mandatory in order to be eligible, the AINP gives priority to candidates who:
- have a job offer and/or work experience in the province;
- hold a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; and/or
- have a parent, child or sibling already living in the province
One of the biggest advantages of applying under the Alberta Express Entry Stream is that it provides Express Entry candidates with lower CRS scores an opportunity to get Canadian permanent residence.
Express Entry candidates who receive an invitation from Alberta can apply for a provincial nomination and those who approved for a nomination receive additional 600 points toward their CRS scores, which effectively increase their chances to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent Express Entry draw.
