The Canadian province of Ontario has conducted a Tech Draw on January 15 issuing 954 invites to Express Entry candidates with eligible work experience in 6 tech occupations.
Express Entry candidates, who received an invitation or Notification of Interest (NOI) to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence under Provincial Nominee Program in the January 15 draw, had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores between 460 and 472. They also needed work experience in one of the following six occupations:
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
Conducted through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) Human Capital Priorities Stream, Tech Draws were created to help Ontario meet the growing labour needs of the province’s tech sector. The draws allow the province to search the federal Express Entry pool and invite eligible candidates to apply for provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
With a provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates can earn 600 additional points towards their CRS scores, which enable them to get prioritized for an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in subsequent draw.
In order to be eligible to apply under OINP, Express Entry candidates need to meet the Human Capital Priorities Stream’s eligibility requirements along with having a minimum one year of continuous paid full-time work experience or the equivalent in paid part-time work.
