Quebec Published New Details for Skilled Worker Expression of Interest System

Quebec has come out with fresh details about its new Expression of Interest system, which manages the profiles of eligible candidates for Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

The current first-come, first-served application process for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) from Quebec will be replaced by the new Expression of Interest (EOI) system.

This change will also take care of the problem that has plagued the Mon Projet Quebec Application portal.

As per the update, the new regulations will come into force from August 2 and anyone who is interested for QSWP will have to submit an online Expression of Interest profile first to the Quebec’s Immigration Ministry (MIDI).

Determining the Eligibility

An aspiring immigrant need to be 18 years of age or above before he or she can submit profile to the Expression of Interest Bank of QSWP. Every profile in this bank will be assigned a score based on a number of factors such as education, skilled work experience and training, proficiency in English or French, financial self-sufficiency and others.

A profile will be considered only when it is able to obtain a minimum required score of two points in education and get the one point that is given for financial self-sufficiency.

The same QSWP point grid system is used to award points for most of the QSWP selection factors. The Validated Employment Offer being the exception here wherein the maximum points have been increased from 10 to 14.

The “Stay and Family in Quebec” factor weighs some variables differently, however, the maximum points available under this factor remains stable at 8.

Once the profile clears the first step it moves on to second step. In this round, the profile should fulfill the initial requirements for financial self-sufficiency and education and should achieve the cut-off score of 43 points.

There are a number of factors in here grouped under Employability wherein score is given for work experience, education and training, language proficiency, age, family in Quebec and time spent in Quebec.

In case a candidate has a job offer than it will provide added bonus, however, this is not an eligibility criteria for submitting profile in QSWP.

All those who wish to apply for Quebec Skilled Worker Program should take the assistance of a genuine immigration consultant to make this cumbersome process hassle free.
